Digital marketing checklists

Printable checklists you can work down and tick off. Both are available as PDFs formatted for print, and the audit also comes as a spreadsheet that scores itself.

What they cover

Both work through the same eight areas, in the same order. Measurement sits above the channels deliberately — adding a channel on top of broken tracking multiplies the problem rather than the results.

Area The question it answers Audit weight
Measurement and analyticsCan the numbers be trusted at all?20%
Website and technicalDoes the one asset you own actually work?15%
Search visibilityCan people find you without paying?15%
Paid mediaWhere is budget being wasted?12%
ContentDoes anything have a job to do?10%
Email and CRMAre you using the audience you own?10%
Reporting and governanceDoes anyone act on the results?10%
Social and communityIs each channel there for a reason?8%

The weights are the audit's, not equal ones. Measurement carries the most because if measurement is wrong, every other score is a guess — including the ones that look healthy.

Which one to use

Use the digital marketing checklist when you want a quick sweep of whether the fundamentals are in place. It is unscored, grouped by area, and takes about half an hour.

Use the digital marketing audit when you need to decide what to fix first. It scores each item and weights the eight sections, so the output is a priority order rather than a list of everything that is imperfect. It takes 60 to 90 minutes.

Both print cleanly from this site as well as from the PDF — the print stylesheet strips the navigation, download buttons and author block automatically.
