Digital marketing software
Curated comparisons grouped by the job a tool does, rather than ranked lists of everything that exists. Every entry carries an explicit evidence label so you know whether a recommendation comes from real use or from reading the documentation.

What each category of tool is actually for
The comparison is grouped by job, because no tool is best at project management and rank tracking at the same time. Jump straight to the group you need.
| Job | What it solves | Buy it when |
|---|---|---|
| Project management | Who is doing what, by when, across clients | Work is being missed, or nobody can say what is in progress |
| CRM & sales | Tracking deals through stages | You are losing track of follow-ups, not before |
| Reporting | Turning platform data into something a client reads | Manual reporting exceeds roughly a day a month |
| SEO | Keyword, backlink and technical research | Immediately — but one tool, not two |
| PPC | Bulk changes and account monitoring | Spend is large enough that an hour saved pays for it |
| Social media | Scheduling and approvals across brands | You post to more than two channels regularly |
| Email marketing | Sending, automation and deliverability | You have a list and a reason to send to it |
| Invoicing & finance | Getting paid, and knowing which clients are profitable | From your first invoice |
| Automation | Moving data between tools without code | You can name three specific processes to automate |
Where free is genuinely enough
Three categories have a free option that is not a compromise. Google Search Console is not a lesser version of a paid tool — it is Google's own data, and there is no substitute. Looker Studio produces perfectly respectable client reports at no cost. And a spreadsheet replaces a surprising amount of paid tooling: the report template and keyword research template here do jobs that subscription products charge for.
How software is assessed here
Most "best tools" pages imply hands-on testing that never happened. Every tool on this site is labelled as one of three things: personally tested, used in real work, or researched from official documentation. Most entries are honestly the third, and they say so on the row.
Pricing is shown only where it can be linked to the vendor's own pricing page, with the date it was last checked. Software pricing changes constantly, and a confident-looking stale number is worse than no number — so where pricing is not verified, the table links you to the source instead of guessing.
There are no affiliate links and no paid placements on this site. If that ever changes it will be disclosed at the point of the link, and on the about page.
